In ancient times I used Redhat, it was not really a big change.

But keep in mind that Debian is more "mature" ... read they have
sometimes have older version of programs.
So it is definitely not bleeding edge ;)

I use it mostly for headless systems.

For ones where you want to have a GUI you can try the debian based Ubuntu.
