From: "Glenn Meadows"
The fact that streams can be ripped to local files is not the real problem,
it's the perception that you're providing a stream and not a download that
impacts licensing fees and issues. The fact that streams can be ripped and
stored doesn't impact those that grant licenses. If you provide it as
downloads, you've got to be willing to pay a royalty for offering the files
as downloads. Since we're a record label, we've got to be really careful
about those issues, because it's the publishers who issue the appropriate
licenses for use. We may own the copyright on the CD that the songs are
on, the license we secure for their use on a CD or online sale only covers
specific uses. Ergo the need for low res NOT high quality files.
We may end up making the whole site Login/PW protected as an initial
"roadblock".
