Finland called for solidarity with Estonia in the dispute and received a
"rather stern" letter from Russia. Perhaps the cyber attack was a
companion warning

Finnish Foreign Minister Ilkka Kanerva received a "rather stern"
letter from his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov concerning Estonia's
controversial removal of a Soviet-era statue, Finnish daily Turun Sanomat
reported Thursday.

Late April, the Estonian government ordered the removal of a statue
dedicated to Soviet soldiers killed in World War II from the center of the
capital Tallinn, triggering violent domestic protests and straining
relations with Russia.

The paper quoted German Ambassador to Finland Hans Schumacher as saying
that the wording of the letter was "rather stern."

The letter was sent days after Kanerva called for EU solidarity with
Estonia in its row with Russia over the statue's removal, saying support
was especially important for small member states.
