I've been using VB to send pulses out the serial port, and it's fascinating! I can see why you'd like to run the train directly from the computer; just amplifying the pulses. VB has a maximum baud rate of 9600 (1070Hz for 8 bits plus one stop bit), and it's too slow unfortunately.
