If that's the one I'm thinking of, it happened almost in front of
me. It was a Continental DC-9 that was landing on Runway 27 at IAH
(Intercontinental Airport, Houston, TX, USA). I was just coming off
of the South ramp when I looked across the field and saw a DC-9
desperately trying to imitate someone stealing third base.
The damage wasn't that significant, but CO decided to scrap the
aircraft due to age and cost.
The NTSB report came out a few months ago, I've got it in the
office. Incorrect hydraulic pressure switch setting was the
contributing factor, if I remember correctly. Even had a little
black and white photo of the switch in the report.
Got my first grey hair that day...;-)...
I have some really cool color photos of the whole event,(none of it
sliding, c'mon...nobody is that fast with a camera!) both in 35mm
and polaroids. If there is a demand for them, I will scan them and
make them available. I can be reached via FIDO at the node below or
Internet at: Tdugas@hotmail.com.
