I just had basically a slap in the face as to how much my ISP/TV service
provider was overcharging me. I had called them up threatening to get rid
of their TV service completely while keeping the internet package and going
with things like Hulu and Netflix. All of a sudden they tell me they can
lower my monthly payment by like $40/month!

After doing some more digging (within a week since they lowered the price),
we realized going with internet and Hulu/Netflix would _still_ be cheaper,
I gathered up all the cable boxes and remotes, and drove to their nearest
office. Plopped everything down on the counter while the lady started
asking questions (in a sensible manner, so I responded honestly). She
basically asked me what I would pay for internet/Hulu/Netflix, and when I
said "about $120/month" She quickly responded with "What
would you say if I could give you everything you currently have for
$116/month?"

Mind you, this all started with us paying around $180/month. Then it went
down $40/month, and now down another $24/month. So I put all the cable
boxes and remotes back in the bag, said "thank you" and walked
out the door with all the stuff I walked in with, including 3 newer remotes
that had been upgraded since we originally got our stuff.

It's amazing to see what they can get away with until you actually do
something about it! They're probably STILL making a profit off of me, but
it took every bit of what I did to get them to finally budge, which the
lady at that counter told me is exactly how the company works. So in a
year, I'll have to basically do the same thing in order to get the best
rates possible, otherwise they'll jack the price right back up to where it
was.

I wouldn't doubt if it was a little bit of both. :)

Regards,
Nick
