AU> Also very interested in any info on the 2042.
THC> From what I gather so far, it's pretty much the same hardware as the
THC> 2035, just with better firmware. All the info I've been able to gather
THC> on the 2035 so far is that it's pretty much the same hardware as the
THC> 2004/5/6, minus the cellular, with a neat control knob and better
THC> firmware.
THC> Gee, I'm really helpful today, aren't I?
AU> I was very disapointed that the cellular freq's were not available in
THC> Supposedly, you can order the same scanner from Radio Shacks outside
THC> the US that are not cellular disabled. If this is true, it might be
THC> possible to just order a replacement CPU from Canada or somewhere and
THC> have it shipped in, or maybe not. I haven't cared enough to try.
THC> Unlike 800 MHz trunked systems or the "used only one day every two
THC> weeks" VHF channels around here, cellular is pretty easy to follow even
THC> without the 2035's firmware.
THC> ... Amazing how much you learn after thinking you know it all.
Interesting possibility! The 2042 scanner is my third so far and it has done
most every thing I have wanted of it. Now I need a top quality outside
antenna
to top it off and I should be set. All have on it now is a Radio Shack all
band ground plane. It does seem to have its problem areas, and I'm no expert
on traking down problems of that type. I would like to find a resource for
purchasing a good all band antenna. I have several diagrams of do it yourself
job's but again I'm " buy it " yourselfer not a " do it " yourselfer.
