According to online sources -- and I honestly don't know which ones can be
trusted, or even if any of them can provide a real, unbiased answer to the
question -- at least 220,000 Japanese, mainly civilians, died from the two
blasts, either directly from the blasts, or as a result of medical
complications from the blasts.

Here is a quote I grabbed from the "ever-trustful",
"unbiased" Wikipedia site:

The bombs killed as many as 140,000 people in Hiroshima and 80,000 in Nagasaki
by the end of 1945, roughly half on the days of the bombings. Amongst these,
15 to 20% died from injuries or illness attributed to radiation poisoning.

observed) attributed to exposure to radiation released by the bombs. In both
cities, the overwhelming majority of the dead were civilians.

In light of the extensive damage that was done to so many Japanese cities as a
result of fire-bombing, as many as 67 cities, it makes it even more difficult
for me to accept that dropping the bombs was necessary.

I find it outrageous that dropping the first bomb on August 6, 1945 wasn't
enough for Truman. One would think that that first bomb alone would have been
enough to bring the Japanese to their knees. Yet Truman still chose to drop
the second bomb on August 9, 1945.

If we add to this the long-held rumor that Truman was more than aware that
Pearl Harbor was going to be attacked, it all seems to point to the long-held
theory that he purposely allowed them to attack, so that he, and America,
could justify dropping the bombs. Those war devils just had to test their
devilish toys at all cost...and so they did. I'd hate to be Truman on Judgment
Day.
