i've not seen anyone mention if what they are paying for is full coverage
or just liability... it makes a huge difference as well as the levels of
coverage...

eg:

 25000 - bodily injury each person
 50000 - bodily injury each accident
 25000 - property damage each accident

and then maybe the same coverage for uninsured motorists... these coverage
rates are selectable... the above 25/50/25 is a common starting base and
they go up from there... this is where folks set coverage rates up into the
million $$ range but they pay more for that higher coverage rate, too...

all that said, i'm currently paying the lowest rate for my coverage in my
state... the state insurance commission won't let my insurance company
charge me any less even though they want to... right now i pay only about
$500 a year for liability only on one vehicle and it has been the same rate
for over two decades covering several vehicles i've driven... my insurance
company also pays me a dividend each year because the company is owned by
its members ;)

if i add full coverage, then my rate goes up by $100 - $150 per six months [shrug]

one also needs to look at the drivers covered, their age, driving record
and even the vehicles covered... all of these factors can easily skew
coverage costs higher... eg: 2005 chrysler 300 4-door sedan VS 2005 chevy
corvette

so back to what you said you pay... your $2000 per year for four vehicles
is right on par with what i pay at $500 a year for the single vehicle i
currently have covered by my policy ;)
