For the first 24 years of my life, I lived as the crow flies 10 miles due
west of Washington DC, my high school was a mere five miles from the CIA
HQ, my father worked for the National Security Agency, and this was during
the cold war years..

So yes Mr Snyder, I grew up with the knowledge that if war broke out, I
would be glowing in the dark or would have suffered a painful and prolonged
death.

However what has kept the peace was MAD.

Mutually Self Assured Destruction.

If we/they hit them/us, then they/we will hit us/them.

The Nuclear Genie has been let out of the bottle, it can never be put back
in, Nuclear disarmament cannot work so long as those with refuse to do
without.. Right now, the USA or Russia isnt the problem. Its countries like
Pakistan, India, North Korea, Iran and China.

How are you going to get them to disarm, throw he book of revelations at them?
