Replying to a message of Earl Croasmun to Bob Ackley:

 EC> ~> EC> Klahn did exactly that in Roger Nelson's Coffee-klatch echo.
EC> Roger ~> EC> let the listing lapse very briefly, and Klahn quickly
EC> posted a dire ~> EC> warning that a new moderator had to seize
EC> control of the echo because ~> EC> "nasties" would
come and take
 EC> over.

EC> ~> That's not exactly what happened, Earl. The listing may or may not
EC> have ~> lapsed, ~> and I've no idea who listed it originally, but at
EC> the time of Klahn's comments ~> there ~> was no moderator of the
EC> echo. ISTR that Roger was first to list the echo with ~> himself as
EC> moderator - that in itself caused some adverse commentary - and that
EC> ~> may be the listing that lapsed when Lofaso briefly picked it up.

EC> You are usually more careful with facts, Bob. It is exactly what
EC> happened. From Jan. 12, 2007 to July 31, 2007, it was duly listed
EC> with Roger as moderator. And Roger was actively participating. I
EC> believe that Thom's automated email expiration-warning system was
EC> malfunctioning, because Roger did not get the routine warning before
EC> deletion. The listing expired on July 31. The new monthly list was
EC> made up and propagated around fidonet. Klahn posted his warning
EC> about how "nasties" are coming because someone commented in another
EC> echo that Lofaso was posting in Coffee-Klatch, and Lofaso grabbed the
EC> echo listing on August 12. I believe it was the SAME DAY as Klahn's
 EC> post.

EC> You may have been misled by Klahn's twisting of the facts. He likes
EC> to conflate the August incident with his similar rant in the same
EC> echo in January of 2007. That has nothing to do with what he posted
EC> and what Lofaso did in August.

I beliueve that I was correct in stating that there was no moderator before
Roger listed it the first time. There was quite a bit of discussion WRT
whether or not one was needed and Roger listed the echo with him as
moderator. *That* is the listing that expired as you note above. Klahn's
comments about the 'nasties' predated that original listing.

Lofaso's listing of the echo and his ceding of it back to Roger occurred as
you said, but the comments about the 'nasties' predated those events by
at least a year.

FYI I'm not the least bit interested in having my own personal echo or
in moderating one. I have been asked to co-moderate one echo and
declined the offer.
