Sorry if this message appears twice. Think I sent it to the wrong =
address for the list first time.
I have a Drake R4C. With no antenna connected, the peak of white noise
obtainable on any band using the preselector is not at all pronounced, =
and
on 28MHz is barely (but just) audible with the audio gain nearly fully
advanced. The RX has no mods (but have a full bag of Sherwood parts and
filters waiting to be fitted!).
Is this a sign that the receiver needs alignment and/or new tubes, or is =
it
just the mark of an excellent low noise receiver design? How often would =
an
R4C need alignment, assuming no major maintenance has been carried out, =
if
at all?
