"Dr. Quinn" no longer makes house calls... CBS announced their
fall schedule, and "Dr. Quinn" is one of the many that won't be coming
back. Other shows that have been dropped are "Michael Hayes",
"Brooklyn South", and "Public Eye". At the same time, long running
shows such as "Murphy Brown" and "Cybill" have made their final
appearance, and none of last fall's new shows will be returning.
This fall, CBS will be introducing 3 comedies and 4 dramas,
including "Martial Law" (a Hong Kong martial arts experts partners
with Los Angeles cops) and "Maggie Winters", starring Faith Ford
(previously on "Murphy Brown") as a divorcee.
ABC re-works its schedule... various ABC shows are being moved
to different nights, at different times -- working on the old theory
that "since show A was so popular on Tuesday nights at 8, we're going
to move it". "Home Improvement", "Dharma & Greg", and "Spin City"
are being shuffled to 'anchor spots', and various other shows have
been dropped completely, including "Ellen" (no kidding), "Soul Man",
and "Grace Under Fire". "Monday Night Football" will now start at
8 pm (Eastern), and new shows include "Two Of A Kind" (starring the
Olsen twins), "Sports Night" (starring Robert Guillame in a "Sportscenter"
type show), and a new version of "Fantasy Island", starring Malcolm
McDowell. "The Practice" is being moved to Sunday nights.
Carol Channing files for divorce... because of lack of sex.
Channing, best known for movies such as ~Hello Dolly~ and ~Gentlemen
Prefer Blondes~ is getting divorced from long-time husband Charles
Lowe -- the grounds being lack of sex (she's claiming they only had
sex twice during their 41 years), public humiliation, and physical
assault. She is also claiming that Lowe took all her earnings and
stashed them in the accounts at his personal production company.
MGM blocks Bond... what Bond?
MGM/UA has filed in federal court to block Sony's efforts at bringing
a new Bond film to the screen... a film that Sony says it knows nothing
about. Sony and MGM have been embroiled in legal battles since last
November, with the courts yet to determine who owns the legal rights
to various scripts and other properties. MGM has stated that Sony
does not have the legal ability to make Bond movies until the court
battle is settled, something which may not take place until 1999.
