Just a wild guess here (not being a wizard by any means), but maybe that's because in DOS you have to wait for something to actually finish happening before you get control back, while with a multi-tasking GUI you just aren't aware how long it really took to do the work since it acts as though to be told is to have done it? :) ttyl neb ...
