Actually Japnn tried several Mainland attacks. One was the Shelling of
southern california in hte Long Beach area. Only Minot damage though.
And another minor attack up in the Orgean area. SO they did Intend to
at some point Attack the Mainland. But they needed some forward bases to
do so. the Battel of Midway turned things arround so they were forced to
go from Attack to Defense mode.
