| subject: | Apple Z80 CP/M observations |
I finally got enough stuff together to do some testing of my various Z80 cards and found a few surprises - I tested an original Applicard (sn 20995; unfortunately the ROM label is too badly scratched to read easily but it looks like it says something like "BOOTSTRAP V.9??", a Microsoft Softcard and one of Alex's AppliClones. PCPI boot disks were downloaded from Alex's site; the softcard boot disk came from Bill Buckels' site. I used slots 3 and 4 in a platinum IIe for testing and ran through the process several times. The original Applicard boots in either slot. Alex's card only boots in slot 3 (in slot 4, the system continues to reset without seeing the card) and the Softcard only boots in slot 4 (in slot 3, the boot process halts, saying Z80 Softcard not found). None of the cards allow much configuration. On the Softcard, all switches are down/off. On the Applicard, jumper on connector position 13 is in place and Alex's card is "stock" with no additional circuitry. All of the cards perform as expected when they are able to boot. Any thoughts?
