computers with over 1G ram does not need swap with gentoo, only if you run
clamav, and try to compile BOOST at the same time, hehe

but yes the more ram one have the less swap is needed, if you have 4G ram then
its nearly safe to disable swap totaly, and if one later finds swap is needed
anyway, one can create swapFILE on linux, even windows shows it works :=)
