Hey Nicholas!

NB> GoldEd has the same features as MsgEd, and then some.

It's the 'and then some' that I have issues with. Definetly far too much
DOS-think methinks. msged is more Unix-think other the FTN corruption aside.
;-)

NB> GoldEd also has better character translation support than MsgEd,
NB> even though both are lacking.

Too much DOS-think on both regards given the questionable compatibility of
those translations. Even if they are indeed correct as to real world 8-bit
character codepages it is still not universal and NEVER will be. Speaking for
myself I would NEVER restrict any application running on any box I have say
over to such obviously crippleware.

NB> GoldEd can translate 256 characters while MsgEd can only do 128,

More reason to favour msged. It's the extra 128 characters that are causing
all the grief and have since they were first adopted in text messaging way back
when. utf-8 is definetly the way to go if and when any characters beyond the
7-bit characters are required. Also I believe if native linux support is a
goal then msged has the best shot at a proper linux port. It just needs to
ditch those key maps and trust the linux box to take care of that aspect. No?

Life is good,
Maurice
