I have now for me a complete new Gentoo install 64bit with kernel 3.17.7 runnng
but had some netcard problem after the reboot where it took me 2-3 hours to it
like to getting a ip from my router, as it changed eth0 eth1 and eth2 to enp2s0
enp3s6 and enp3s7 and then moved the mac address for the cards. But I then
tried out wit use of startup with the sysrescuecd and checking for what goet
wrong here, then to see how it make thing i the let the smaller 80G harddisk
boot up and got some problem with this for 3.16.5 on it, then I least took the
connection for the 80G off and checking the netcards and find to do another
choice for first getting on to the internet, by move a network cable from WAN
switch box to LAN and it worked. So I started up by harddisk boot and got fine
then started total up and by Gentoo handbook is the old grub named grub:0 not
supported anymore self if grub2 is in beta still.
But as my girlfriends daughter was the one there installed Gentoo now and me
sitting beside and just advise her on do what the handbook telling to do, where
the las the young woman done in the night was that she first create the kernel
by menuconfig in 2 hours and then end with to had emerge genkernel and creae
the initramfs file, I said that she should end with now to do the alternative
build of kernel with 'genkernel all' and let it run t next morning and she done
it, and just had here by sunday morning to work with fstab and grub, umount and
reboot.
This end fine with all started up and just missing the network as it was rename
of eth to enp card and the mac addresses got move, so I closed the pc and took
the harddisk and cdroms ready to have with me home as it then was time to drive
to another place for some hours, and told the young woman that she could do some
linux Gentoo work on the now dual boot pc with boot for win7 and Gentoo 3.8 by
run emerge --sync and emerge -e @world + emerge gentoo-sources on it, and late
here by the afternoon she phone me from her own place and told that she had
done the 3 functons before she got home to herself.
I told her that that the 64bit new system worked fine and was in on a emerge -e
@world and there is lot of programs sources it is on to get home as i not have
done much change in the make.conf file so there is about 170 programs to it
shall getting home and it was still running for 3 hours and had only got 60 of
170 then.

It to me 3-4 hours by the run of emerge -e @world then should this end with use
of emerge --ask --depclean and done by the pc not was on WAN but on LAN
network, I then now have moved the cable from LAN to WAN and it is working for
this too now and have got a WAN hostname and its ip address. So now it is to
think on programs for routing doing dhcpd named etc. to be installed and setup
to work for router processing there shall emerged net-dns then for a good
workng router there as last too use shorewall and then mailserver postfix and
filter etc. + clamav. I should make the specific condig files for this by have
old working config to take some from then to the new settings.

MK>A way better choice than golded+ methinks.
Golded+ is i only using for mbse and on my fido1 main fido pc is it no mbse as
it is binkd mailer, and if kernel 3.17.7 here can free more mem and space than
3.16.5 and make programs run better 3.16.5 can kernel here be good updated for
the kernel.
Take care,
Gert
