From: John Beckett "Robert Comer" wrote in message news:: > Really, what you want to do and what hardware/OS you have to do it on Thanks for info. I'm vaguely thinking of: 1. A more secure way to browse Internet. 2. Experiment with Linux on XP or W2003 computer. 3. Experiment with W2003 on XP, or maybe vice versa. Experiment = Try stuff without worrying about long-term effects. Perhaps play with some security-related stuff that I don't trust. Take snapshot and re-run later. Roll-back to earlier snapshot. Essential: Need a way to copy data files between host and guest. If necessary, I thought I could use USB drive. Also, need a way to update guest Windows. I saw a suggestion that WGA says a guest OS is not genuine (fair comment) ... but I don't know what the consequences are. Maybe I could update anyway, or maybe I could use MBSA, or even a WSUS server. For (1): I've been thinking of what Geo mentioned about booting Knoppix, but a VM sounds interesting. I suppose that in a year or two, malware running in a guest system will have figured out how to exploit the host system...
