It definetly isn't the Euro symbol.  ;-)

For sure the BBBS online editor isn't faking ISO-8859-1 with CP1252.  I had
to check after reading that most HTML5 pages claiming ISO-8859-1 are really
CP1252 which is difficult to tell.  The "Was ist das?" line
confirms it since if so-called LATIN-1 was indeed CP1252 then we'd have
seen a Euro symbol instead of the "*" character.

Good stuff to know ... sort of.  I doubt it will matter much but you never
know for sure.
