Subject: San Antonio air Port Securrity
Fellow federationists and friends,
Last night I met Mary's flight from Arrizona and received a much better
time of it with the air port securrity service when I checked in. There
waas none of the, (Freeze, put your hands in the air, and spread your leg)
routine Mary and I experienced last wednesday evening when she left.
RAther, when I approached the meatle detector I assured the officers that
I could have my guide dog sit and wait while I stepped through the meatle
detector and I would then call him to me after I was throu the machine.
Both of tripped the meatle detector so we willing submitted to the usual
hand scann with the wand or the petting down which wsome securrity
personnell choose to do. Once the officers were convinced we had nothing
illegal we were permitted to go on our way. However, I did ask one of the
officers if they were with Archenbright securrit. He told that they were
with Wackenhut Securrity. as far as I know this company enjoys a
favorible reputation in all quarters so I was much relieved to know that
Archenbright wouldn't be doing their dirty work to blind persons passing
through San antonio International air Port; at least for the time being.
Of courst I probably should have found out if wackenhut was hired by the
air lines, the air port, or the Ciey of San antonio to handle securrity
chores at our air port. We may have to research this kind of information
if insidents like the one Harvey described last week occurr in the future
so we can be most effective in combatting this kind of demeaning
treatmentof blind air travelors.
Take care and have a great week.
Yours truly,
Peter donahue
P.S.
mary is home safe and sound.
