DM> I've read the short story (it's in the "Night Shift" collection) --
DM> it doesn't strike me as a candidate for *anything*.
MG>
MG> Ditto.
Some of the stories in that collection look fairly interesting... but
why two of the most boring ones ("The Lawnmower Man" and "Trucks") ever
got made into films, I don't know.
DM> All it is - from
DM> what little I remember - is a guy who hires this strange person to mow
DM> his lawn... by the end of the story, the guy who did the hiring is
DM> dead, apparently mowed to death. Heck, it was one of those
DM> old-fashioned push mowers (not gasoline powered)...
MG>
MG> The mower ran by itself, however, and the gardener ran after it
MG> eating the grass clippings, plus a shredded gopher.
As I said... it's been a while since I read that one. Usually when I
read the Night Shift collection - which isn't often - I only bother
reading the ones I consider to be interesting... "Jerusalem's Lot",
"Battleground", "Strawberry Spring", etc.
