I have a question for YOU. Why do you assume that the experience of
divinity arose out of fear (angst) in the "desperate" sense? Do we KNOW
hat?
Moreover, I see no reason from our experience in the present that ANYBODY
ver
needs "a god." If any individuals experienced divinity it would not be just
simply "a god" or "some god." It is in the experience of "exodus" from "a
god" that divinity experienced as no longer "intercosmic" was conceived.
Certainly Rudolph Otto explored this subject to a great extent in his
lassic,
_The Idea of the Holy_ as has Mircea Eliade.
Sincerely,
Frank
