As I said, that would only be an issue if the partition was formatted with a
non Linux filesystem that doesn't understand permissions. I certainly haven't
seen what you've described on a pure Linux formatted system.

I have /sbbs/exec in my $PATH for convenience, and with $SBBSCTRL set,
everything "just works".
