The thing that always depresses me about whacko conspiracy theories 
is how often they later turn out to track closely with the actual 
reality on the ground.   The error usually comes not in predicting or 
evaluating actions, but in positing some overwhelming design behind 
them. 

Shrub isn't so much trying to help his friends in the awl bidness, 
it's just that he thinks like they do and so what seems to him to be  
the best thing to do is going to be the best thing for them, because 
that's the world he lives in and the world that shaped his thought 
processes and priorities.  

It doesn't take a conspiracy theory to realize that when you take a 
group of oil people and put them in charge of policy, you get the 
kind of policy the oil people have been wet dreaming about for 
decades.  If you let lobbyists draft bills, you get the bills the 
lobbyists would love to have.  

Conversely, if you let what passes for a revolutionary left in this 
country write legislation, you'd get bills that'd invert -- not stop, 
but invert -- the class war... because the "Left" doesn't want to 
stop the class war, they want to win it.

Ultimately, nobody in a decision-making capacity is trying to find a 
way out of the kennel... they just each want to be the Alpha.

Wth the exception of Saddam Hussein personally, I don't think Shrub's 
malicious.  Evil, arguably.. but not malicious.  He's genuinely 
trying to do what he genuinely believes is best... but his world view 
is painfully limited.  It works in his circles, though, so I'm not 
sure it's POSSIBLE to edumacate the boy...
