I had the same problem with my 28.8 PnP modem with a couple of games that use 
the modem for head-to-head play. I worked around it by loading a fossil 
river
before I load the software that will be useing the modem. I had trouble with 
the nascar raceing and when I put the fossil active it worked like a charm. 
Try a fossil and see if that helps, I use BNU ver 1.70, but there are others 
as well.
