Let's also keep in mind that Michael is here, discussing all 
that he has learned (or inferred), and is giving no credit
for where he has come, to the many schools he has attended.
If I've read him correctly, he has a couple degrees, and his
ability to be articulate, spell correctly, use of grammar,
and perhaps even his interest in inproving his grasp of his
world have been impacted by this formal education.  The
person that he is has probably been shaped by what has been
happening outside of school, but even there, a lot of his
associations have been influenced by his education.  For him
to make the sweeping statements he makes is, imo, myopic...
