subject: You`re going to WDW!

Dawn,
-> You may have already received many replies. Here is my two cents
-> (actually worth much more in this economy :-) ):
This is only the second reply. Thanks.
-> Buy Birnbaums' Official Guide to WDW and also Bob Sehlinger's (sp?)
-> Unofficial Guide to WDW. Read them.
We bought the Unofficial Guide and it's great! Later (sooner?) we will
pick up the Official Guide and check it out. There's so much advise in
the book we have it's overwhelming!
-> However, for our family we
-> disregard what the Unoffical Guide says about the food at WDW.
We will keep that in mind. I'm sure that if we are "hungry" we might
not be too picky.
-> Ok, now check with you (or your spouse's) work and see if you can get
-> the Magic Kingdom Club card (it's free for many employees).
Good idea and I have thought of that from time to time. Usually on my
way home from work. So, as I read this I called the department
secretary about it.
-> We are Disney fanatics. The first trip we took was 15 nights/16
-> days. We did take off two of those days to do non-Disney things, but
-> even then we did not see everything at WDW in that time! The parks
-> are enormous and jam packed with things to do.
I can't imagine someone staying that long. The costs for lodging alone
must have been enormous!
-> When are you thinking of going, and if you have children, how old are
-> they? This will make a difference as to how you plan your itinerary.
We are going the nights of June 14 to June 17. Not much time by your
standard but there are many other things to do than spend all my money
at Disney. The Space Shuttle launch (STS-78) occurs on June 20th. We
hope to spend some time at Cape Canaveral (sp?) a couple of nights to
tour around and play on the beach.
We have 1-16 year old son going with us. He will be too big to "play"
in the kiddie stuff and I'm sure he and I (if not his mother too
sometimes) will enjoy the same kinds of rides and activities! It's nice
when they get a little closer to your age ;-)
-> Ok, we have only stayed in two places on site - The Disney Vacation
-> Club (which is Disney's version of a timeshare, but they rent rooms
-> out too) and the Fort Wilderness Vacation Homes. We have seen Dixie
-> Landings and the Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge (I heard the
-> rooms were small) and the Polynesian - all of which look like great
-> places to stay. The Contemporary's exterior turns me off, but the
-> interior looks good.
We made reservations at Old Key West Resort for two reasons. One the
beds are larger than Dixie, Orleans, and Carribean. And two, it is
fully equiped with kitchen and washing machine/dryer.
We actually made several reservations. We "once" had a reservation at
the Grand Floridian. It looks (from the pictures) to be a very nice
place if not stuck up... What really looks nice is the Dixie or Orleans
Resorts. Even though the beds are only doubles it would be acceptable
to me. My wife wants larger beds.
-> Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon are great. Blizzard is probably my
-> favorite now because they have more family rides and places. But
-> Typhoon has the best wave pool. We were not as impressed with River
-> Country, it is not designed as much for non-swimmers.
Thanks for the advise and incite.
-Jim
