subject: IFAP: `Women were particularly prone to pleading poverty whi

[When I read this on Ceefax, it specified that the people were pleading
poverty while spending on luxury goods]: "The survey from Independent

Britons 'cannot afford to save'

Can't save or won't save?
More than seven out of 10 UK adults claim that they cannot afford to
save any more money than at present, a survey has said.

Yet two-thirds of those claiming that they cannot save more admit to
spending money on luxury goods.

The survey from Independent Financial Advice Promotion (IFAP) said
women were particularly prone to pleading poverty while still spending.

An IFAP spokesman said that saving is not "a priority in the British
psyche".
