Hi Alan! 07 Feb 09 09:37, you were saying to Gert Koefoed Andersen: AI> Yep, first I do make all. I always try make install as a regular user AI> and if it fails I run it with su. GKA>> You can for a makeinstall.err file use the command with : AI> make >> /filename and make install > filename AI> That's what I need. I just need to redirect stderr along with stdout AI> and I forget how to do that. Something to do with $2. The commands above will not work, the redirection from the second command is telling the system to truncate the file to overwrite ( > ) the file instead of appending ( >> ) to it. Try this ( 2> ) for redirecting stderr only: make 2> stderr.log Or this for redirecting both stdout and stderr (which is what you want): make &> stds.log If, after this, you want to _append_ to those files, use the >> operator like this: make install 2>> stderr.log make install &>> stds.log I don't recall ever using the above syntax but, as far as I remember, it should work allright. Hope this helps, Sergi --- GoldED+/W32-MINGW 1.1.5-b20070503* Origin: * TARDIS - (2:340/101) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 11/201 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 140/1 222/2 226/0 236/150 SEEN-BY: 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 100 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 280/1027 SEEN-BY: 320/119 393/68 396/45 633/104 260 267 285 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 SEEN-BY: 2222/700 2320/100 105 2905/0 @PATH: 340/101 341/66 14 261/38 633/260 267 |
