One reason is that the "fiasco" is largely a creation of anti-american
sentiments. I've debated this issue on the washingtonpost forum and
actually caught leftists from Europe and the US snickering in
a ghoulish fashion over the war dead simply as a way to get at
Bush.
Pardon me for asking, but what is so bad about getting rid of
Saddam Hussein and having democratic elections? How is Osama Bin Laden
increasing his credibility by opposing democracy?
I'm reminded of all the criticism Reagan encountered during
the cold war for possibly starting a war with the USSR and
after it collapsed, everyone crawled out of the woodwork and
said "I knew that was going to happen." It would have been
neat if they knew it a few months earlier... :-)

I skimmed his report and agree with him that a women's only unit
could have incredible psychological effect (as seen by the recent
prison photos.)
