Sure, but it's RAM processing, not I/O-bound, far faster.

As you said in a previous msg, I would consider database if someone could 
tell be they processed a full backbone feed for 6 months without losing a 
message base. I've heard too many horror stories. With *.msg, in 8 years, 
with the exception of msgs that -arrive- munged, I have never, ever lost a 
single msg. With database, it's the inbound mungelets that explode the 
database.
