I would have guessed that mine was from the 1980s, but I just looked up the
firmware version on the Web and apparently that dates to 1992.

That rings a dim and distant bell.  Is it basically a serial terminal
emulation?  I would happily use something similar if I could find any
commands for my TNC (Kantronics KAM with v5.0 firmware).
