Greenhouse effects means the air absorbs more of the energy, you aren't
heating the ground and causing convection, you aren't seeing the effects of
hot spots due to different surface reflection rates, etc. The snow at the
poles doesn't get to reflect as much sun, the darker ground at the equator
doesn't get to absorb as much sun.
