| subject: | Re: Microsoft Media Player shreds your rights |
From: "Dave Ings"
My primary hard drive on my home machine crashed last week. My WMA licences
were backed up (or so I thought). Upon (re)installing Windows XP + all
service packs + hotfixes etc etc on the new drive, I attempted to restore
my WMA licences for music purchased from Puretracks.
I got a variety of semi-intelligible restore errors from Windows Media 10,
none of them which helped much. I did the usual Googling due diligence but
after half an hour of poking around I abandoned the effort.
I only had a dozen DRM protected WMAs, all of which had been converted to
MP3, but the experience was enough to put me off DRM protected music for a
good long time. I will continue to purchase CDs and rip them to MP3 (or at
least I will as long as the music companies allow me to!)
