The big test for all the second party IM clients is to see if they have the
file transfer capabilities. That's the one feature that always seems to be
missing or broken.

This is not encouraging

I've used that before.

Heh get this one. Yesterday I burned a new Knoppix CD and forgot it was in
the drive on my work machine. After applying a beta sp I rebooted and up
came knoppix but at 1280x1024 so I rebooted again and typed in

knoppix screen 1600x1200

at the boot prompt and up came knoppix at full resolution on my GF4 video
card. It detected and installed pretty much all the hardware automatically
as far as I could tell.

Every time I see knoppix I think what a great way to do corporate desktops,
you could modify it to have just the stuff the desktops are supposed to
have, you could give employees copies to take home which wouldn't hose
their home machine, the possibilities are really unlimited. Best part is CD
drives are cheaper than HDs don't generate near as much heat and if you
wanted to change the corp desktop setup it would consist of burning a bunch
of CDs then handing them out. You could even have multiple configs and let
the user decide which CD to boot that day.

Oh, and virus would not affect desktops, only cleanup would be on the
server and only AV you need would be server based.

I wonder how much heat and power a building full of hard drives creates/uses?

Geo.
