If I ignore the bullshit here and reply in regard to what I saw =
claimed in one of the press articles about the Zune it won't please the =
folks looking for reasons to whine and complain. I may as well. The =
article I read described how a user can share a piece of music he =
purchased with others so that the others get limited trial version. If =
this is the case they the issue is entirely a contractual issue with the =
music providers.
Sharing other files would be interesting but I suspect opens the door =
to claims of infringment unless some court has ruled that you are = allowed
to share whole works. I have no memory of this.

Ok to all you said below but I was really trying to ask you about your =
thoughts on the capability in the Zune thingie about sharing the file. =
Adam made the point that you typically take the ms corporate viewpoint =
and I kinda wanted to hear your thoughts on the sharing capability and = if
you consider that a fair use and if so the logic behind that opinion? =
(I'm thinking we may finally have a copyright issue were we agree)
Geo.

No. This is about the following statements from adam
I wonder if it changes the file in any way. If
so.....ummm....copyright....? If I own the file then like a movie =
or
piece of music "rearranging without permission" etc is verboten.
The rearranging to which he is referring is what you call format =
shifting.
