Looks like it could be done with the new Core Animations in OSX Leopard.
Some interesting shit in the next release of OSX.  Some of it is a re-hash
of stuff that's been in Windows and PC side stuff for some time (Time
change, or whatever they're calling it).  Also, a different approach to
Virtual Desktops, as well.
