As a side line it appears ZIP is the most popular compression program over

platforms.  Does anyone know how this came to be.  Did the PKWARE crowd
somehow loose the code or did the INFO-ZIP crew do a reverse engineering hack
job or by simply studying the file structure.  I have and use x1 which does a
fair job at creating arj files under os/2 and there is a Russian one out 
here
too.  I haven't seen versions available unix.  The downside being for a
programmer that is relying on the product for their bread and butter is the
unix folk expect the full source code so they can do a custom compile for
their own machine.
