It's cheaper and it sells better. News coverage costs money and your
most valuable demographic bloc, the advertisers, doesn't really want
to hear much of it -- puts the sheep off their feed, doncha know.
Celebrity hooha is free, there's an entire industry devoted to
shoveling it into the spaces for you, and the advertisers feel
comfortable that it'll keep the peons reading long enough to see the
ads.
