From: "Frank Haber" Re: PDF compatibility. On one computer I have the full Acro 7.08 set as the default for PDF*s, in both the filesystem and the browsers. Increasingly, I'm seeing web PDFs, even one-pagers for rebate forms, hang Acrobat. Each time you hang, you get a[nother] stuck instance of Acrobat or two, and a transient (1 min) run of Acromsg. You never see any messages, and the processes are not accessible from the Win interface. Foxit 2 reads 'em, with simple dragondrop of a dl'd file. Beware especially of files created by late versions of Quark, (Win or Mac) beloved of the advertising fraternity. *probably a medium-stupid thing to do, but I have to apply so many quick bandaids to the editable PDFs that flit through here that I need this. (Having a late version of AcroWin as the creator is a partial defense if some other schmo can't open them. I don't usually play the Beltway truthiness game, but hey, life was getting hard.) --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
