I've been working on a technical support problem most of
this week. I have not been able to solve it, it is driving
me crazy , so I thought I would pass it by the group,
to see if any of you have any ideas. If you are not
familiar with Win32 pipes, please ignore this message.
Running Windows 98.
foo.c, a C source file containing syntax errors.
Microsoft C compiler (cl.exe), version 8 and 10. These are
Win32 Console programs.
At a dos prompt.
cl -c foo.c
Copyright message displays, along with 3 error messages.
Just what I expected.
cl -c foo.c >foo.err
Only copyright message displays, 3 errors written to
foo.err.
Just what I expected.
This implies that cl writes the copyright message to stdout,
and the error messages to stderr. That would seem to be the
right thing to do.
tee32 cl -c foo.c >foo.err
tee32 is supposed to make sure that all stdout and stderr
messages go to the screen and foo.err.
Copyright message displays, along with 3 error messages.
With version 10, foo.err contains the same thing, e.g.,
everything written to the screen. What I expected.
With version 8, only the copyright messages written are
foo.err! Definitely not what I expected!
Any ideas?
If you need to see the source to tee32, let me know, and
I'll make it available.
