subject: More on win2000 telnet problem

Someone from here ended up calling my BBS to check out the problem and then
sent me a message quoting some of the manual. The part he quoted talks
about using

NoDsp Press_Enter Normal "M"

Put after another command that started with an "M" to prevent my
custom menu screen from clearing the data on screen before the user has a
chance to read it. I use that already in a lot of places like in the file
area after L)ist Files, or in the message area after N)ext Message, or
P)revious message to prevent my custom menu from clearing the screen.

Here is an example :

        Read_Next Demoted "Next message"
 NoDsp Press_Enter Demoted "N"

With win2k telnet, after I press enter my menu doesn't display. If I
comment out that NoDsp Press_Enter line then the menu displays. The problem
is not consistent.

        MEX starea\stmarea Demoted "Area Change"

That line alone without a Press_enter causes the menu not to be displayed.

        File_Titles Demoted "List files"
  NoDsp Press_Enter Demoted "L"

If I comment out the Press_Enter line, the menu still does not display when
it returns.

  NoDsp Display_File Misc\doorsys Normal "L"
        Xtern_Dos Doors\lord.bat_%k Normal "L LORD"
  NoDsp Press_Enter Normal "L"

If I comment out the Press_Enter line then my menu shows. I need that
press_enter prompt there though because some doors display important
information when they return to the BBS like BRE, to notify the user
someone else on a different node is playing BRE and only one user at a time
can play.

I've tested with Windows XP telnet today.. no problems. Works fine. Windows
2000 telnet has this problem. I also ran into this problem with Putty.
Someone ran into this problem using an OS/2 terminal as well. Terminals
known to work: Hyper Term, win 98/nt4/xp telnet, mTelnet, linux telnet

Any clues?

I've tried taking out the [cls] from my menu file but that makes no
difference. There is no cursor movement mecca tokens in there, just things
like [remain] and [time] I can email you a copy of my mecca file if
you're interested in trying it with your BBS.

Thanks,
Ryan
