Because it does a whole lot of things besides ftp, binkp, transx and e-mail 
internet fido file and mail exchange.

Are you running irex in it's own directory, ie. cd InternetRex, ./rexl or are 
you starting it in another directory and have IREX on you path?

Corrupt *.rex files could also be your problem.
