subject: Discrimination against Men (and boys) in the UK...

From the Mankind Initiative webpage entitled 'Media Watch':-

http://www.mankind.org.uk/media.htm

On the face of it, we are supposed to live in an age of equality, a simple
and straightforward principle. In reality, after four decades of feminist
ascendancy, society gives special treatment and privileges to a range of
politically correct victim client groups. Men (more specifically white men)
do not qualify for victim hood and are given no protection. In fact, men
have become the only group who can be discriminated against with relative
impunity.

The discrimination against men is clearly evident in:

the under-achievement of boys in education;

the denial of men's basic human rights within the legal system and social
services,    particularly in respect of:

anonymity for accusers who allege sex crimes, prosecutions for domestic
violence where allegations are not supported by evidence, and attacks on
the presumption

of innocence for men accused of crimes;

the exclusion of men from the family home and the reluctance or refusal of
the family courts to act where children are denied contact with their
fathers following divorce;

paternity fraud and access to DNA testing for paternal certainty;

the massive bias towards women in the public provision of preventative
health services;

the life chances of men being reduced by the influence of feminist mediators
within public services, who resolve conflicts of interest in favour of
women, ostensibly "in the interests of children".

Men now experience widespread and systematic sex discrimination,
particularly when they encounter the public services. The remarkable thing
is that the new sexism is public, institutionalised and often overt.

Nowhere is the institutional bias against men more obvious than in the media
where negative and demeaning images of men are frequently used to undermine,
denigrate and ridicule masculinity.

Of course, the media are subject to many influences, but the hostility to
men has become so single-minded and relentless, precisely because it is the
result of an organised effort by groups of highly motivated activists who
are determined to impose their radical feminist agenda on society. These
groups operate throughout society, but with particular effect in the public
realm through the media, regulators of public service and private sector
broadcasting, publishing and in other government agencies like the Law
Commission and the laughably misnamed Equal Opportunities Commission.

Other activists use their professional positions within quasi-public
institutions like the Law Society; and public services like the Crown
Prosecution Service. In fact, the activists occupy important
decision-making positions within an informal and sexist network that
permeates the political establishment, and governing elite. This even
extends to Government Ministers, who seem to forget that they are supposed
to represent the interests of men as well as women. The activists operate
more or less covertly, depending on the positions they occupy and whether
they need to maintain the pretence of impartiality. Most pay lip service to
sexual equality, as required by the 1975 Act and the law, but in practice
they are engaged in a process of subverting men's human rights.

These gatekeepers promote their radical feminist agenda by mounting media
campaigns which integrate press, TV and radio reports, and which are linked
to staged pressure group actions and the introduction of feminist
legislation. They also do their best to spoil and deny access to
alternative perspectives, which promote the legitimate interests of men.
The overwhelming feminist domination of social and cultural commentary
ensures that issues are presented from an exclusively female perspective
that subjects men to largely unchallenged judgmental and sexist criticism.

Even when the outcome of an issue has significant implications for men's
rights, the male perspective is ignored or dismissed. There is no sense of
men being defined as a group in order to defend their collective rights in a
way that happens automatically and without fail for women. There is,
however, always an organised chorus of commentators lined up to give the
feminist line on the issues of the day and they are primed to give
word-perfect responses to planted questions designed to put down the men's
movement.

Radical feminist activists in public services are working in a fundamentally
undemocratic way, with the support of a small and unrepresentative (but
influential) metropolitan elite, to force their self-serving and
confrontational ideology on society. Instead of representing mainstream
society, they are abusing their positions of authority to subvert the values
of ordinary people. Working in concert with pressure groups, they
systematically provoke divisive conflicts of interest between men and women,
and then proceed to rig the argument in favour of women. The media have
been captured by extremists who are determined to drive through a subversive
agenda that undermines the collective values of mainstream society.

A striking point is that these activists are using resources provided by
what they would themselves describe as an inclusive and pluralist democracy
to actually marginalise men and win unfair privileges for women. It is a
deliberate ratchet-like process of separately defining only the interests of
women and then attacking men's rights.

Radical feminists have made it socially acceptable to overtly attack and
undermine masculinity, and we must consider the price we will have to pay if
the media continues to denigrate men in this way. It is inevitable that the
sustained media assault has had a psychological impact on men and society as
a whole. The drip-feed of abuse undermines the self-esteem of men,
particularly young men who have no experience of a society that respects and
values masculinity. They do not have sufficient experience to understand
that the feminist assault on them is a recent phenomenon, and an aberration.
Because many young men think that feminist abuse is normal, they do not
question it as they should, and they do not assert their rights. This has
led to an unpleasant feminist triumphalism in our popular culture, and a
growing and as yet unfocused resentment amongst men. Male crime and suicide
rates continue to rise, and boys are under-achieving in education. Whilst
no single factor is responsible, the removal of this cultural denigration of
masculinity is essential.

The way in which feminism encourages conflict between the sexes is also
having a coarsening effect on our culture, and it is creating a gulf between
men and women that is leading to the disintegration of the family and other
social structures. This is causing a great deal of unhappiness, and women
are themselves beginning to question whether this is really what they want.
What is clear is that the feminist ascendancy has led to greatly diminished
respect between men and women.

Radical feminists intend to undermine and destroy relationships between men
and women, and to create conflict. This media assault on men has very
serious implications for the long-term health of society, and there is no
reason why society should continue to support this destructive ideology.

The ManKind Initiative clearly understands the fundamental importance of
achieving balance in the media and we are determined to use the media to
assert the principle of equality for men. Attention is beginning to focus
on the neglected opinions of men and there is a growing sense that the
feminist tide so hostile to men is beginning to turn. This "sea change" is
beginning to have a liberating effect, and more men are finding their
voices, but there is still a hard-core of media antagonism towards men.
This is particularly evident amongst feminist journalists and other
gatekeepers, within the advertising agencies, and the media regulators.

To challenge the hate-fuelled influence of radical feminist ideology, the
media must become a focus for action by men. The media is not just a
propaganda vehicle for radical feminists, it belongs to the whole of society
and the time has come for men to fight back. The first objective is to make
the denigration of men socially unacceptable.

Men's rights activism in the media will be directed at the following
objectives:

more gender balance in the media, and greater coverage of issues from the
male

perspective;

radical feminist activism has been both sexist and subversive, and it should
be banned

in the contracts of employment for public service employees who occupy
important and

influential cultural positions;

in covering gender issues, the media should reflect the values all people in
society,

including ordinary people, not just an unrepresentative and politically
correct

metropolitan elite;

because it is subject to democratic pressure and funded by the taxpayer, the
initial

focus of our efforts should be on the main public service regulator Ofcom,
and the other

main regulators like:

the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA); and

the British Board of Film Censors;

other quasi-public bodies, agencies and services are legitimate targets for
direct legal

actions;  these include:

· the Law Society;

· the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS);

· the laughably misnamed Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC); and

· the BBC (national and regional);

finally, commercial interests are vulnerable to perceived threats of product
boycotts.

Legitimate targets for direct legal actions include:

· trading companies that advertise;

· advertising agencies; and

· commercial television companies.

Of course, there are many other targets where pressure should be brought to
bear in due course, but in challenging the feminist stranglehold and
influencing those who control the media are the priorities.

The ManKind Initiative intends to use its website to challenge the radical
Feminist ascendancy and welcomes contributions from all supporters of the
Men's Movement.
