While the creation of a shortcut to an .exe file starts with the icon of
the .exe file, it's very easy to change the icon of the shortcut. "Change
Icon" is a command button at the bottom of the "shortcut" tab on the
"Properties" menu of shortcuts in Windows 2000. You change icon
by finding
(browsing to) a new .ico file or a new icon located inside of some .dll
file (and elsewhere, I'm sure). That has satisfied my needs for a
"different" icon. Mine is just a big solid bright red square with g32 in
white on it -- quickly recognizable on the "Send To" list.

My reaction would be to write up an instruction on how to change the icon
using a 3rd party icon editor/installer. What one would you
recommend? It's a good lesson on how windows works.
