There are free icons, icon libraries, and paint programs available
elsewhere on the web.  I use a few myself.

This is what comes from windows, mice, and GUIs.   85% resource hogging eye 
candy and little true functionality.

Editing "event sounds"?

Everyone suggesting such "improvements" should be sentenced to three weeks

Certainly not, you can change e.g. the icons used for links on the desktop

easily in windows.  That need not be a function of the editor.
