When I went to my birth county to get a copy of my birth certificate - to prove
to the Social Security Administration that I was (A) who I said I was, and (B)
of the age that I claimed - I got, instead, a form stating that my birth
records (giving my name, date of birth, place of birth on the form) were on
file with the County Clerk of that county.

So, I tried the Illinois State Archives. And was told "we don't give those out
any more without a court order."

As it worked out the SSA accepted the form from the clerk of my birth county
and I began getting checks. I am going to apply for a passport so I can visit
friend in Canuckistan, Oz, and France. I wonder what sort of hoops I'll have to
jump through for that.

The Aridzona law still feels like, as Ross has said, a bad WWII movie about the
Geheime Staatspolizei, though.
