I have both Intel and AMD and I find AMD faster and less expensive all in one.

Heck, the processor in my Palm T-5 Tungsten is faster than his current system.

The box I'm on at the moment is a AMD X2 5000+ and it's almost 2 years old.
I'm running Linux Mint on all but one box that I have for my Ham radios, it
is running XP so I can use Ham Radio Deluxe to control my radios.
